At a critical section of a High-Speed Railway line, rockfall incidents occurring on the slope located immediately adjacent to the track posed a serious risk to line safety. In order to eliminate this risk, a protective gallery structure composed of steel profiles was constructed over the railway line, and it was planned to be covered with backfill material. Prior to the backfilling works, high-precision strain gauge sensors developed by GeoAnts were integrated into the steel load-bearing elements to evaluate the structural behavior of the steel profiles.

The sensor cables were routed through protected cable ducts to multi-channel data acquisition unit systems, enabling continuous data recording. In this way, stress and deformation changes occurring in the steel structural elements after backfill loading were monitored in real time, providing reliable data on the structural integrity and long-term performance of the load-bearing system. This project demonstrates the effectiveness of a proactive structural health monitoring (SHM) approach in managing the impacts of geotechnical risks on structural safety.
