Within the scope of a deep excavation project carried out in close proximity to a hospital building in Istanbul, the potential risk of exposure to horizontal displacements and vertical settlements induced by excavation activities was assessed. As even minor deformations in critical healthcare structures may threaten service continuity and structural safety, a dedicated structural health monitoring (SHM) plan was established at the initial stage of the project.

Accordingly, vertical settlements were continuously monitored by installing high- precision hydraulic settlement cell sensors on the hospital structure, while horizontal inclination changes were tracked using tiltmeters. The acquired data enabled the excavation process to be managed safely and allowed real-time assessment of the structural performance, providing scientific data support for risk-based decision-making processes.
