Bondable Strain Gauge
Product description
Strain sensors are widely used in many measurement applications, whether static or dynamic. A strain gauge is sometimes referred to as an electrical resistance strain gauge, or simply a resistance strain gauge. They are also used in measurement applications considered dynamic, where the output fluctuates significantly due to deformation of the tested mechanical object. They are commonly used for components subjected to stress and torsion.
“Strain” is defined as the ratio of the change in an object’s length to its original length. A strain gauge can measure this change caused by an external force and converts it into an electrical signal that can later be digitized, displayed, logged, and analyzed.
The GeoAnts SSG (Bondable Strain Gauge) has an aluminum body with a strain gauge integrated inside. The sensor is bonded to the measurement surface using a high-strength adhesive (epoxy). The strain experienced by the structural member is transferred to the body and to the strain gauge. Instantaneous strain changes are reflected at the readout unit as a measurable signal output. Depending on the scaling (calibration) factor, deformation or stress in the member can be calculated easily.
No welding is required at any stage from installation to measurement.
